  • 1 cup frozen peas Adds color and sweetness.
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes Freshly made is ideal, but instant can work in a pinch.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season generously.
Pastry
  • 1 package puff pastry or phyllo dough Pepperidge Farm recommended for its flakiness.
  • 1 egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) Gives a golden finish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned (about 5-7 minutes), draining excess fat.
  3. Add diced onions and carrots; cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in frozen peas and Worcestershire sauce; season with salt and pepper and let simmer for another minute.
  5. Roll out puff pastry and cut into squares (about 4 inches per side).
  6. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture and a dollop of mashed potatoes on each square.
  7. Fold the pastry over the filling and pinch to seal.
  8. Brush the tops with the egg wash.
  9. Arrange on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These bites can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. Consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary into the meat mixture for extra flavor.
